how practical is it?

an oppurtunity has come up for me to maybe train as a residential support worker. it is 1 day on, 3 days off. do you think it would be possible to do this with a young child?

I think it would be if you had a partner. As the partner could do the putting to bed and many mums don;t see their children during the day anyway as they are at work. It would be nice to do have 3 days a week with your little boy as long as you were not too tired if you were doing night shifts.

I had a friend who worked nights three days on and 3 days off and her body clock was always all over the place.

no partner but i was thinking that i could either use an overnight childminder or ask my mum to have him.

Your mum could have him but you are relying on her a lot, so it depends on whether you are happy to do that. Overnight childminders are not that easy to find and can be expensive, and although you will get 70% of that back 30% of a lot is still a lot!

But if it could lead to a real career in the future it may be worth considering.

i would only have to pay for it or use my mum for 2 days so hopefully it wouldn't be too much (money-wise for cm or just generally for my mum).

It may be worth enquiring then, let us know.

Have emailed them back but I doubt I'll get it cos i don't have the experience and most probably lots of people who do have experience will apply aswell.

Everyone needs to start somewhere, if you don't get it ask what experience they would like and see if you can get some voluntary work for a few hours a week.

In the social care field enthusiasm and passion matter as much.

right i must get to bed. will let you know if i hear anything.
