challenges NHS secondment transfer for new mom-to-be

Hi, I’m pregnant with my first baby due end of Feb. I’m an NHS Trust employee and was recently offered a job in a different NHS trust for a fixed term post. When I told them about the pregnancy and asked them if a secondment option was doable as I would loose the maternity pay with job uncertainty, I was told that a secondment choice could be offered. The hiring manager said I would have to initiate the secondment with my current employer. The manager said she was reluctant to advise because the transfer process between different NHS trust would take longer (like 2.5months) and she needs someone to be in the job continuously for at least 6 months.
I’m very confused and disappointed because I was really looking upto this role and me being pregnant has made it far to reach. I can’t risk accepting a fixed term contract as the I will be loosing the OMP after 12 yrs of NHS service. With the manager’s reluctance, I feel like I shouldn’t go ahead with the secondment either. I’m disheartened. Anybody came across similar situation, would love to hear from you all.xx

It’s a common issue - having to stay in a job because you don’t want to miss out on maternity pay. Many women have been in the same situation, myself included. My dream job became available but I didn’t even bother applying because I knew I wanted a second baby soon so I stayed where I was for its generous maternity pay rather than leave and have peanuts. It sucks but that’s just the way it is.
