Leaving my breastfed 5 month old

I’ve been invited to a work meeting which will be a nearly 3 hour drive away. My baby will have just turned 5 months and is exclusively breastfed so I am worried that I will be so far away.

I recently left her with my partner for a couple of hours and returned to her crying and refusing a bottle. I will also be leaving her with my mum who has only seen her a handful of times. All in all the trip will be around 10 hours - what are your experiences with this and do they suffer much separation anxiety?

How often does she feed? If she won't take a bottle
/ cup it's pretty unworkable.

She has since taken the bottle and usually feeds every 2-3 hours but I’m just worried she may refuse again whilst I’m gone

Oh wow, I also have a 5 month old so feel your pain.

Can you bring your mum with you, breastfeed before you go inside in the car then your mum can go for a long lunch and meet you after?

Ask work if you can bring the baby in so that you can introduce them to everyone in the office?

Call in sick/ say the car has broken down and try to rearrange?

Also that long without feeding will leave your breasts engorged.

That's ridiculous. Just say it won't work, can join on Teams.

If she’s exclusively breastfed and you don’t bottle feed can’t you explain to your boss that you cant attend in person?

Are you still on maternity? You don’t have to attend KIT days.

YourHangryQuail · 05/09/2024 23:28

I didn’t know that was an option. Of course online is far better.

Yes I’m still on maternity and it would be a KIT day, I’m torn as I would like to attend but I think the guilt and worry would take over.
