Can I give 1 weeks notice?

I have worked in the NHS for a couple of years and started a new role in July. To try and summarise, a number of factors have led to me wanting to hand my notice in ASAP, including management, work life balance, and the job itself.

I used to work as a TA and got in touch with my old employer, they said they could find me work but when I told them that my current notice period is 4 weeks, they said that schools generally will want someone who can start ASAP, as in a weeks' notice or so, particularly with term just starting back up.

My husband thinks that I should be able to give a 1 week notice period as I've only been there since July. I'm pretty sure that generally the notice period in the NHS is 4 weeks, but on Citizens Advice it says you must give at least 1 week if you've worked somewhere for longer than a month. My role is a low band and I don't have any workload that would need to be handed over etc. I just really want to leave as soon as possible.

Does anyone know if I can give a weeks notice?

As you are probably still in probation, it is likely to be one week but confirm by looking at your contract.

What does your contract say? Our notice period is significantly longer, and when people have tried to ask for early release, they have been refused and have lost job offers because they can’t leave in time to start a position they’ve been offered.
Are you still in your probation period?

Check contract.
Get references and sign contract with new work place.

If old contract states longer than a week in probation tell them you found a new job and need to start asap.
Some employers will easily let go.
Some will pester you with "but contract said..."
Just tell them (not in writting) that you are sure it will affect your health and you may need sick leave.
If this does not work simply tell new job you start in a week, when you start call sick at your old job as you can self claim it for a week and you are alreqdy half way through.
Call in old job and say you are unwell and will work from home few days.
Obviously do nothing.
Call in sick again.
Work from home again.
Boom.
Your month is gone.

Just make sure you never use that old job for references tho
