Just wanted a bit of advice.
Am going back to work next week part time 25 hours. As we work 12.5 hr shifts this is compressed into 2 days so not that bad really.I just wondered if any of you worked fewer hours than this and how amenable to it were your line managers. I've asked if I could possibly work just 1 long shift a week, preferably a night shift as this would avoid DS1 going into afterschool club and also save me £125 p/m. She'll let me know next week but can't help but think there will be some obstacle or other.
Thanks louise

Im a nurse. My manager couldn't give me a night shift a week, too difficult for him to allocate that to me.

I was very lucky and when i returned to my part time post after being full time previously i was quite specific and asked would it be possible to do two days a week perhaps thurs and fri? and got it under NHS family friendly policy.

I think the fact that i was ft before helped, and while i told them what i wanted to do, i told them nicely which made it seem like i was asking.
my colleague did the same a year later, and got the same result. Mind you when we asked we did take into account the current rota routine.

Within a couple of years it seemed that so many of us had children and worked part time to a set rota every week. EG sharon does tues lates and fri mornings, kay does tues and thurs night etc. It was a lovely little unit though and we all stepped in with bank cover when necessary.

Any way, ask nicely, they can only say no.
Good luck.
