Do I go for the interview?

I am currently unemployed but in the lucky position that I do not need a job right now. This means I have only been applying for jobs I would really want (instead of having to apply for anything and everything). I have been invited for interview next Friday (6th) for a job that sounds great for me. Was feeling very excited but then today I have seen an ad for my dream job. I have put in an application but it does’t close until the 6th, So do I go for the interview I have on Friday? Obviously don’t know if I will even get an interview for dream job. What if I get offered the job on the 6th? Or do I cancel the interview in the hope I get dream job?

Of course you should go for the interview. It's good practice for one and the dream job may not happen.

Absolutely go for the interview.

Ok, but what do I do if I get offered Fridays job and then get an invite to interview for dream job?

Then you go to the interview and hand in your notice if you get it

There is no guarantee you will be offered either job, right now you have no choices, go for both jobs and you may be offered one or both of them. But I wouldn't be going to the interview assuming you have either one in the bag with a gap in employment history unless you have a good reason as there will be other applicants with more up to date work experience and skills.

In the unlikely event they offered a job at interview, you don't have to accept/reject at that point. You could just say you will let them know.

Go to interview 1, if they offer verbally accept it. Go to interview 2, if they offer accept it. Go back to interview 1, thank them and advise that your circumstances have changed and you no longer wish to take the position. It's unlikely Int 1 would have got a contract out to you, but you can always drag your heels and not send it back until you know the outcome of Int 2.

It happens all the time.

Thank you everyone. You have reassured me. I just don’t want to appear as a time waster for job 1. All this worry and I might not get offered any job!

Yes definitely go to the first interview, if anything it’s good practice for potential dream job interview.

An interview is basically an invitation to learn more about the company and them to learn about you. You’re under no obligation to accept a job just because you’re offered it!
