Love my job, hate my manager

I started a new job a couple of months ago and my direct manager is amazing, super supportive, encouraging, gives great feedback on my work and has never raised any complaints.

A second person I report to is the total opposite, totally undermines everything I say, micromanages, wants every communication sent to him before I send it out, talks bad about me to my actual line manager etc.

I've gotten to the point where I dread logging in each day and spend my weekends feeling anxious about going back to work.

I could get out of having to be 'managed' by this man by pulling out of the project I'm running for him, but that would look completely shit on me. Any words of advice or just what would you do throughts?

I've literally just been through this. Started in May, same happened, then micromanager complained about me to HR, instigated a PIP and I resigned. It wasn't worth the hassle at the end of the day.

I would suggest speaking to your manager about it.

What I've usually found is when I find people difficult to work with others do too.

It's worth trying to resolve if you can see a way out by pulling out of the project.

I wouldn't worry how it would look for you - it sounds like he's going to drive you to distraction if you continue so I wouldn't suffer on if it's affecting your mental health and causing anxiety out of work.

Better to be proactive and discuss options than struggle on.

My manager has basically said ignore him, it's bullshit and I'm very happy with you. However, this bloke also manages the program I'm employed by, so pulls all the strings and will no doubt shoot my chances of any progression after this. I know I need to leave, but it really sucks as I love everything else about the company and people!

As @GoodOnPaper says, ask your manager what they think about you pulling out the project before you do it. Ideally only do it with your manager's support.

If you otherwise like the job and people, try to see what you can do to improve the situation first. That micromanager may be trying to drive you out so don't make it so easy for them.
