Just having a little breakdown about going back to work, how are you?

I’ve had ten months off due to being signed off during pregnancy, then almost seven months at home with my beautiful baby girl and it all comes to an end tomorrow.

Currently hugging her as she sleeps on me rather then putting her in her cot and having a little cry :(

Oh poor you. I completely understand. It does get easier. You get used to it I guess. Just enjoy the cuddles for tonight.

I feel the same about my DD going to high school in September. Like it’s the end of her childhood.

Sending some strength and solidarity.

Ah l remember that feeling op - are you going back full time? Do you like your job and your colleagues?

JEVA32 · 28/08/2024 21:09

Thank you @Notenoughdollarbucks and good luck with the move to secondary school, time goes so quickly doesn’t it?

@Rubyandscarlett It’s the worst! I’ve got a lovely little morning routine with her now which I’m really going to miss. I’m going back on a 70% contract to a school I’ve been at for nearly 10 years (I’m a teacher) I like to what I do but 10 years is a long time and I have been considering moving on maybe next year. This year I’ve changed department to see if that freshens things up a bit!
Thank you for your reply.

I remember that feeling too. I was so sad for the whole week leading up to the day I had to go back to work.

It wasn’t actually that bad in the end and I love to see what my LO got up to at the childminders every day. It’s been great for them socially as they’re an only child and they’re really thriving which makes leaving them a little bit easier.

EmeraldDreams73 · 28/08/2024 21:16

You're bound to feel sad but it'll probably be absolutely fine, sometimes the thought of it is worse than the reality. I hope you're able to get into a new routine and don't overdo it. I'm feeling v similar about going back to full time (plus) hours next week after being part time in summer. Dd1 is going back to uni and dd2 starting 6th form and I still have that "Waaaahhhh" feeling this time of year!

JEVA32 · 28/08/2024 21:17

Thanks @Awaywiththeferries123 I’ve been the same! I’ve been upset most nights after putting her to bed and I’ve still not put her in her cot yet 🙃

Aw, that’s so nice. My LO has two days with daddy and then is going to nursery from next week so I’m sure I’ll feel the same once we get used to our new routine!

Mine are much older but I remember the feeling well.

I’m moving schools this sept, away from a school and a dept I loved. It’s the right move, for so many reasons, but at the moment I feel sick to my stomach about the full thing…!

confusedlots · 28/08/2024 21:20

Oh I remember that feeling and bursting into tears the morning of my first day back to work when DH left the house with DD to take her to nursery and I was left on my own to get ready for work. But honestly, the thought of it was so so much worse than the actual reality of it. You just need to get the first day over, and believe me that it's not as bad as you think it's going to be, and you will actually find it enjoyable having some adult conversations, eating lunch in peace, and getting a break from changing nappies!

JEVA32 · 28/08/2024 21:24

@EmeraldDreams73 Thank you! I had post partum anxiety when she was born and worried myself sick about her constantly and I think the idea of not being with her all day is bringing some of those feelings back a bit, you know what I mean? I think I’m fairly organised so hopefully the routine won’t take too long to establish.

Good luck to your big kids at uni and 6th form!

@confusedlots Thank you! I’m sure I’ll be the same and have a little cry in the car tomorrow!

I've never been happier than when I've been at home
with my babies. Totally get how you're feeling Flowers

TheMoth · 28/08/2024 21:41

I cried the first time I put the first one in nursery. But he was fine and still remembers some of the rooms and staff, vaguely.

This year I'll have 2 fully fledged secondary school kids who aren't in until Thursday, whereas I am in on Monday. The pain I will feel on Monday morning at 7, when they are still fast asleep and I've only been able to have a 10 minute breakfast and one coffee, will be immense. Only topped when I return home to find them still in their rooms but with the rest of the house mysteriously chaotic.

JEVA32 · 28/08/2024 22:40

Best 10 months ever @Tafal Even with some post partum anxiety and relationship strains thrown into the mix! We are a happy family now and it’s been a dream getting paid to be at home with my girl!

JEVA32 · 28/08/2024 22:41

Ha! I have all that to come, @TheMoth I hope Monday isn’t too painful.

Thank you to all of you lovely mamas for your replies, kind words and understanding. I’ve finally put my baby down and need to rest my own head now before tomorrow. Have a good week, everyone!

You will do great OP. Just remember:

You will be using your skills
You will be in a routine
You will be setting your child a great example
You will be providing for her
You will be sending her somewhere where she will learn, socialise and grow
You will appreciate quality family time

I could go on. Have a great first day back!

JEVA32 · 29/08/2024 05:42

Thank you @HerewegoagainSS That was just what I needed to read to start the day. Now I need lots of coffee!
