Women in tech - any training programmes?

Hi, I've been doing various programming courses and have built a portfolio but don't seem to be getting anywhere when applying for jobs.

I know Code First Girls offer a route into tech, are there any other companies offering training with a permanent job at the end it? I don't mind what field to be honest, as long as it's in tech. Thank you.

It's not specifically Women in Tech but I've just been made aware of 'TechTrack' a new apprenticeship scheme (not just for youngsters) from the Government, discussed on the Civil Service blog. First cohort has closed but a second cohort should come online soon so you can sign up to hear about updates.

TechTrack: Start a new career in tech

I's open to everyone (you don't have to be a civil servant).
https://www.civil-service-careers.gov.uk/professions/working-in-digital-data-and-technology/techtrack/

"The TechTrack programme offers uniquely tailored apprenticeships into four highly sought after roles.

Applications open later this autumn for a 2025 start for:
• Business Analyst
• Cyber Security Technologist (Risk)

Applications will open in January 2025 for the second cohort of:
• Software Developers
• DevOps Engineers"

Good luck :)

General tech courses
In case others reading are interested in more general tech courses then have a look at the Gov's Skills Toolset https://nationalcareers.service.gov.uk/find-a-course/the-skills-toolkit - all courses are free.

Computer-y courses include
• Computer essentials
• Computer science
• Coding
and there's also
• Digital design and marketing

For Y12 / Y13 girls / women
And if you also happen to be the parent or guardian of a kid in Y12-13 then King's College London has an (online! Don't have to be in London!) tech thing that might interest. It's for women and non-binary students.

Unlocking AI & Computer Science 2024
https://www.kcl.ac.uk/events/unlocking-ai-computer-science-2024

"Through this eight-week online programme, you’ll meet other people interested in computer science and discover cutting-edge research in AI and tech, from Natural Language Processing – the backbone of tools like ChatGPT – to Human Computer Interaction, which studies communication between people and machines."

Thank you for your detailed response, it's been really helpful! I'm going to do a couple of them courses and will keep an eye out for the next TechTrack opening.

I think Bae Systems have a programme opening in November, so that sounds good too! 😊
