New job offer when already started a new job??

I have just moved to a new job. I was in my last job for 10 years but it was incredibly stressful and I was beginning to get burnt out due to my huge workload. There was a lack of similar roles in the profession so I decided to take a significant pay reduction and work in a different field in a different organsisation to have some time out.

I've only been in my new job for 2 weeks. The team are incredibly lovely, infact they are falling over themselves to make me feel welcome. The work is easy. Work life balance is fantastic. It's perfect really but I am on approx 20k less than my old job (30k+ instead of 50k+). My aim is to do this role for a year or so and then job hunt.

Today I have been contacted by a company I worked alongside in my old job. They have a new role that is coming out and it's a job that I can do easily - infact its about a third of my old workload with a pay of 60k. The team again are lovely and jobs rarely come up in the company. There is a strong emphasis on worklife balanace and It's also WFH if I wanted. I have been strongly encouraged to apply and they have been incredibly positive about me being in this role and the contribution I could bring. I already work well with the team.

Of course I need to go to the interview and I know I have to take the job if offered. However, if I do get the 60k job. How on earth do I soften my resignation with my current employer - I've only been there a fortnight! ??

You need to do what is best, if that means jumping ship so be it. I had a similar predicament, except I had been in post a week when I got advised I had been successful for another job which I applied for. I gave a weeks notice along with an apology x

Do you think that if your existing company needed to reduce staff they would think twice about terminating your employment. It is a job - it is not personal (or should not be personal). So go for the new job, and if you get it, happy days!

I would say to go to the interview and have a discussion with them. If offered the job, and you want it the just say that a company that you have put feelers out with, for a long time, have offered you a great opportunity they won’t come around again. Say how welcome the company that you’d be leaving has made you feel but, in all good conscience, you would forever regret not taking this opportunity with this other company.
Go for it. It sounds fabulous.

I would go for it if it's a job you really want and won't be in the same position as your last job. You need to do what's best for you.
