Working hours

I’ve moved to a different part of the business and apparently they have different hours to my old one.

This hasn’t been mentioned previously and now my boss wants me to work to theirs. This means I lose my half day Friday which I have worked for 20 years and have scheduled my whole life around (dramatic I know)

I didn’t sign anything to come across, I technically never officially accepted it they assumed and move me over.

Where do I stand? I don’t want to annoy my new boss as this is a really opportunity. Happy to work later Fridays but just not till 3:30 as it won’t work for personal reasons.

Why were you moved? Was it a TUPE transfer? Have you got a union rep?

Sorry for all the questions, I was a rep in a previous role and would have negotiated (hopefully) for you to keep your hours. Is it a different role?

They head hunted me for the role as they needed someone experienced. They never mentioned any change to the working hours until I’ve moved over.

Non union as I can’t join as an executive but also didn’t sign any contact for the move

Could you try and negotiate now? Or is there any scope to move back to your old dept? Not sure if your agreement for Fridays was in your contract or just something that was agreed between you and your old manager. It could
be argued as you’ve done it so long it now forms an implied part of your contract under custom and practice rules.

And FYI, you can’t be stopped from joining a union. You probably wouldn’t be covered under collective bargaining agreements but they really can be helpful in situations like this.

It was different core hours which technically as an exec you don’t have to follow. He’s now backed down as my old LM said I can just move back as they’ve not removed me.

I’ll have to look into the union as I was always told it was for professionals only
