Posting here hoping someone can help.

Been working p/t for a company for 6 years. Done this all along and it fits with my child care.

Last week I was told that we all have to reapply for our jobs, and our hours will be allocated according to company need. I can’t chop and change my childcare every week so this doesn’t work for me.

Can anyone tell me a bit about the legality of this and what my rights are, if any so that I am prepared for the meeting with my manager?

What is the context? Why have they decided this? Is it a redundancy if unsuccessful situation? How many employees are there?

Hundreds of employees. They took people on, many P/T, mainly women, and many of us have contracts to fit with school runs etc.

They now want us to work when the company wants, so that means many of us have to leave now. No redundancy offered as they say they don’t have to if they give us notice.

ACAS is for anyone who needs employment or workplace advice, so no, but if you have a union I’d absolutely be consulting them first if you are a member.

Also if you have a union then take a rep with you to your meeting

Are you sure that's what they are saying? I read that as saying that it's not guaranteed your hours will remain the same (so part time may need to go back full time and vice versa). It's unusual to not have at least a minimum set number of hours in a contract (I think - I'm no expert).

Sorry, I probably haven’t described it properly.

I work 21 hours a week/ 3 days. My days are set, and my childcare is arranged. They want to change my days every week to what they want. I can’t do this as my childminder can’t work like that, she has other DC to look after.

So my days are Wed, Thurs and Friday, and they want to be able to tell me when I am coming in.

I have a contract stating what my hours are, and what days I work. They want me to terminate that, reapply, and then they say when I’m working which will be set hours, but different days every week.

ACAS were really helpful when my employer wanted to change my contract, Op. Do contact them as other posters have said.
