NHS pay & leave after a break of 7 years. Please can anyone advise?

I have previously worked in the NHS for 25 years (continuous service) and the for the last 7 years, i've worked for a private (non NHS/healthcare) organisation.

I've seen an NHS band 6 job that i want to apply for. The top of band 6 pay will be a pay cut for me, compared to my current role but if I get offered the job, can I ask to start on the top of band 6 & can I ask for the full annual leave allowance (ie, more than 10 years service)?

What I don't want to do is start back at the bottom of band 6 & with the basic leave entitlement. (When I did previously work in the NHS i was a band 7).

Thank you.

I think you can ask for the top of the pay scale and would have a good chance of getting that. I don't think you'd get the annual leave allowance though sorry.

You can ask. But ultimately you left, it's not continuous service, so it will depend what rules they have around returning staff.

You can ask, but my experience with return to nhs is that they might allow the allowance 5+ annual leave years but not the 10+ years annual leave.

Annual leave allowance is supposed to be based on cumulative service not continuous so you should get this. You can ask about the banding but it will be at the appointing managers discretion. I would not mention this until they offer you the role.

Thanks.
Yes, good point @MakingPlans2025 I won't ask either of these questions at the interview. I learnt that mistake many years ago!
