Less senior role after redundancy

My role was recently made redundant and I have focussed on finding a new role. In a super challenging job market, I feel I am fortunate to have been offered a new position within a few weeks of starting my search. It is less senior and a little less pay, but otherwise looks good. I can cope with a small pay decrease, but I am worried that a less senior role may hold me back in the future/next career move. Has anyone had a similar experience and what happened? I would really appreciate any insights or advice.

A gap in your Cv will impact you more than a different title. The job market is really tough at the moment, particularly for senior positions so you did well getting a new role so quickly.

Unless it's a very standardised industry, most employers use different titles so it's unlikely to have negative impact on future positions.

If the new role is giving you a bit more breathing space you could look at what online courses you could take to keep your CV relevant as employers love continuous personal development.

Congratulations on getting a new role. Not sure what industry you are in, commenting from healthcare perspective.

Not sure what your career plan is but do remember that the retirement age is going to be 68+
More senior roles and responsibilities may come with extra salary but are also associated with additional pressures.
It can be psychological easier to step up than it is to step down and later in life/ career it is not uncommon to review work life balance and priorities change (And find yourself stuck at a high grade / stressful job you feel trapped in). i e a lot to be said in taking time.
There is merit in enjoying roles, graining more experience and skills- many of which can be transferable, continuing with training/ skills, having a good work/ life balance before rushing up the work chain.
From my own experience those who have more solid work experience and skills grade by grade make much better managers/ decision makers as they have knowledge and skills to fall back on. They also cope with the demands better.

Not at all. That can always be explained by saying you liked the look of the company so was willing to take a lesser role to join it and you had even faith that you would progress quickly in the ranks in this new company again.

Thanks for the advice, it is really helpful. I am not in a particularly structured profession, though job titles tend to loosely reflect experience and responsibilities. I have just turned down an interview for a more senior job title, but less salary and less favourable conditions.

It does appear that I will develop some new experiences too which I am sure I can put in a positive way. And yes, I will definitely look into some targeted CPD.😀

I was recently made redundant and I've taken quite a large pay cut to start a job in a different area. I may stay and, hopefully, move up but I'm still applying for other jobs.
Better to have some job than none, was my reasoning.
