Help! No one to hand in my resignation to!

So I have a bit of a dilemma. I've been offered a new job which I've accepted verbally and I'm waiting for them to send me the contract before I hand in my notice at work.

The issue is - I'm currently at a very small company, report into the CEO and there is no HR department. The CEO is having a baby on Thursday, they're having an absolutely awful and stressful time with their daughter, and the person she is leaving in charge while she looking after a newborn from Thursday is her husband, who is of course also welcoming a new baby on Thursday!

I've told my future employer about the timing issue and the impact on handing in my notice, but as a very large global firm, I don't think they understand that there is no HR department to hand in my notice to instead. And, I don't want to chase too much and annoy them.

Plus, I feel like such a sh*t handing in my notice now, especially as I've been quite close to my boss over the last couple of years. But, the new job was just too good an opportunity to pass up, especially as the finances at the company I've been working at have been pretty rocky recently and I've been feeling quite insecure in my job.

Has anyone else been in this situation before? Any advice? Having awful thoughts about having to hand in notice the day she gives birth!!

Just email the CEO or her husband.

Not sure why the issue. Wouldn’t matter who you emailed, she would find out straight away anyway.

Wow, you've picked an awful time to go! You need to speak to the guy rather than the woman and do it quickly.

Yeah not great timing but also what can you do. If you've asked to push back start date from new job and can't then a dated email explaining how you've tried and you get that it's rubbish timing but sorry!

I would email, your notice should hopefully be taken from the day you sent it, not necessarily when they read it.

Just email your resignation to all relevant parties.

The bad timing is unfortunate but tough luck on their part. It comes with the territory of being a business owner.

This comes with being a business owner and leaving your spouse in charge while you are out. Sadly life does not stop because they are having a baby.

Personally I would send it to her email address and also send a registered copy to the company.

It isn't your fault they're having a baby and have life stress

Email it over
