Job coach - is this a thing?

I'm really struggling with not even being able to get an interview at the moment. Last time I was looking, about three years ago, I got an interview for nearly every role I applied for, but not now. I'm doing the same thing - tweaking my CV, matching my personal statement to the JD and PS, but getting rejected at the first hurdle.

Nearly all the rejection emails I've had have mentioned high numbers of applications. Which makes me despair as, as a middle-aged woman, the dice feel loaded against me anyway. My current role, which I'm bored to tears in and has become enforced remote working which I absolutely hate, I got because no-one else applied.

I know it's the summer holidays, but thinking about September and continuing to put myself through this, I wondered if there is such a thing as a job coach and how I'd go about finding one?

Google careers coach. If you're in a union, I got one at a reduced rate through mine some years back. Work paid for one when I was made redundant (to be fair, I was glad I wasn't paying him. He was crap. The one I had years back was quite good though.)

You could ask online for recommendations, or Google it as PP said.

Just be a bit cautious - "coaching" seems to be the latest craze for people who want a "sideline" that'll make them rich - the kinds of people who would like to be an influencer but can't quite make it. I know a few people who've set up their own coaching companies in the past year (two in careers coaching; one in lifestyle coaching). None of them have any real experience; they just throw around words like "manifesting", and charge a fortune for it.

So make sure the person you find has a decent portfolio of experience, decent reviews, and knows what they're talking about.

Hope it goes well for you!

I used a company called Elevate HR to do my CV and a bit of help when changing industry

If you join the Facebook group "careering into motherhood" it's got loads of resources like webinars and you'll get loads of advice there and people are able to recommend coaches based on what you are looking for etc.

Thanks, I'm very wary of 'coaches' in general. Elevate HR look more like a 'we're your HR solution' type of thing rather than supporting people to get jobs?

I have Googled and there seems to be mixture of government funded schemes, which are a good idea but don't really apply to me, and high-flying C-suite type stuff.

I'm somewhere in between. I'm not a high-flyer, but very good at what I do and would like a job in an organisation where there is some scope for me to learn and develop.

I'm finding it so frustrating. I'm incredibly competent, easy to work with and so on, but fall at the first hurdle of being shortlisted over and over again.

Maybe it is just lots and lots of applicants, which fills me with despair as I've got no chance.

https://elevatehr.uk/ it's this one definitely helped me 18 months ago. I've also used Bill Brace for accounting and finance rolls.
