HR or accounts?

Hi

just wanted some advice as to what career path people would say is easier to break into?

HR or accounts/finance?

I’m looking at either CIPD level 3 or AAT level 2. I was pretty set on accounts to have a complete change of career, but a family friend said that it’s pretty much a dead end career and hard to excel in this day. Apparently although AAT is well recognised, a lot of people do the course so it has little meaning now.

HR had already come into my mind as I currently work in management, so felt this ties in pretty nicely. The same family friend says that HR is easier to get into and also you can excel further.

feel really stuck on what to do as don’t want to waste money on courses, not to mention time.

has anyone works in both fields and can give some advice here?

Has your family friend worked in both fields?

Because I'm an accountant and it's news to me that the profession is a "dead end" job.

Doing AAT self-funded is unwise without a relevant job or work experience. It's better to find a job and then get the employer to fund training and exams - that's the normal route, nobody should really be paying for accountancy qualifications out of their own pocket.

What was your long term plan for an accounting career? Chartered status?

For HR you'll need to break in with entry level experience - similarly just self-funding CIPD without any relevant experience is going to be limited in its usefulness. There's lots of people trying to switch to HR and you need experience to make it.
