Need help with potential job!

Also posted in Chat.

I have been studying for the past few years, before that bringing children up so I'm lacking in work experience.

Recently applied for a job as a court officer, I've gotten through to the next round which is a suitability test, then I'm assuming if I pass that it will be interview.

I am so nervous. I know I haven't even passed the assessment yet, but just generally getting back into work I feel like I'm not good enough as I've been out of employment for so long.

Does anyone have knowledge of a court officer role? I want to work in the legal sector and obviously read the job description (which was surprisingly uninformative!), but I'm not completely sure what is expected of me, and if I do get to interview stage I want to be prepared.

The other thing is I often see people talking about questions such as 'give an example of a time you dealt with a situation such as x,y,z...' How do I do this when I have been a student/parent for so long? I did some voluntary work within a court so I understand the proceedings, but nothing out of the ordinary ever happened so I've no idea what kind of examples I should use if asked.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

Firstly you are good enough, your just lacking confidence as you have been out the work place for some time!

They wouldn't waste their time or yours inviting you for assessment if they weren't interested in you, your qualifications, skills and knowledge you have displayed in your CV/application so keep that in mind!

I don't have advice re court matters ect. However just because they ask a question relating to how would you manage or deal with this situation or have dealt with this situation - you many not have an exact example however you can answer it honestly by saying - while I have never faced this or come up against this before I would do XYZ!

Hope this helps and good luck!

Thank you very much, that was a lovely comment to read!

Yes, my confidence is not great but I really do believe I would quickly overcome that if I actually got the job.

Sorry but another question I've read about and not sure how to answer is what do you consider your biggest weaknesses? (Or something along those lines). How do people answer that when surely you don't want to come across badly?
