Career changing mid-late 30s

Has anyone done this and any advice?

I've worked in the same sector since graduating, and the same employer for 15 years - with spells of maternity leave within that. For a long time I held off career changing knowing I wanted to start a family and maternity leave being a consideration. I'm now back and lacking both confidence and job satisfaction.

I know I want to change, I'm not sure what to and I don't know where to start as a part time working mother of small children. In brief, I've got very strong academic qualifications to masters level (Law) but a fairly stagnant CV for 15 years or so, and work in a sector - professional publishing - likely to be very impacted by AI.

Thanks in advance.

Hiya, I’m in the same boat, late thirties and been a social worker for 10 years. I would like to study nursing. I had thought of this before as my mum is a nurse but was drawn to social work. Interesting times.

Me too (also law!)

I switched from insurance to law in my thirties with young kids at home. Took a huge pay cut to become a paralegal, did my GDL, LPC and TC and qualified 8 years later. It was hard work but I had a supportive partner and parents. Currently a Partner in a regional firm.

Fellow mama here 👋 after I had my first, I took my years maternity leave, had a bit of an epiphany and went into full time education. I am now qualified in a career I love. While it absolutley has it's challenges juggling part time work/full time education and family life it is absolutely doable if you have your head screwed on and have the work ethic! As mums we often put everyone before ourselves, but it's OK to put yourself first in order to better yourself and in time the life of your family. I say go for it! Don't let age be a factor in even considering returning to education! X
