Police Vetting

Any police officers that can help? Particularly those in recruitment please.

I'm currently applying for the police, passed the initial SIFT but having major doubt about wether the the amount of work and time for the next steps is worth the gamble when vetting is a big worry of mine. I'm trying to establish my odds.

I myself no convictions or cautions I have traffic offences from years back 2009 (Speeding and failure to produce in time). No debt or any financial issues ever.

Hubby has an assault conviction (drunken brawl) suspended sentence approx 20 years ago and kept his employment with RAF to which he does till this day.

My extended family is shrouded by drama with a many a call to the police, (DV related), myself too at times with the bad choice in relationships (victim of arranged/ forced marriage and DV) but nothing ever came of any of it, I've always been on the receiving end not a perpetrator. Does this sort of information get looked at too? I believe my ex husband is a crook (an assumption from gossip) but that's after we divorced 2009. I share my eldest child with him who does speak to him occasionally but my daughter hasn't lived at my home for over 2 years so now there is definitely no link with me and my ex. Child support stopped in 2020. (Financial links with questionable people can be an issue) I'm concerned these associations with frankly loony situations will reflect on me.

The current me has massively reduced my contact with all family and it's been that way since approximately 2013. I've only lived with my partner and our children since then. Have very little to do with anyone else related and have decent friends and positive associations.

My DH ex has tried to cause trouble for us, lots of calls to the police up until 2018 false reporting, classic parental alienation tactics, but the police were supportive of my husband and nothing came of it, they barely came to the house a quick chat with us was often enough, again more drama though.

Should I go for it
Or have no chance?

Interested what happened ? Did you go for it ?

I also have a bit of a history and applying for a 999 call handler and the vetting worries me . I’ve been in trouble with police as a juvenile 3 times and had an arrest for drunken disorder as an adult , interested to hear of the result you had ?

I had a job offer for a police staff role and had to undertake vetting.
I was completely honest about 2 family members with criminal records and the level of contact I have with them (1 of them I have no contact with).

After 9 months of waiting to hear back I didn't pass the vetting and no explanation or reason was given.
It felt like such a waste of time and the vetting is so intrusive that I really regret applying for the job in the first place, having to hand over so much personal info.
I know I would have been good at the job and professional but on reflection I dont really want to work for an organisation that would judge me on the conduct of family members I am not even close to (assuming that's why I failed as my record is fine).
