OH medical questionnaire after contract signed

Hello All.

I accepted a new job a few months ago and am due to start soon. Last week I received a medical questionnaire from future employer’s OH. It states that the purpose is to see whether I am suitable for the role (desk based job). It asks me to disclose any current medical investigations, mental health or ill health.

I was a bit taken aback. Contracts were signed quite a while ago and I’ve left my previous company.

Do I have to disclose this information and should I?

I am currently undergoing some medical investigations but I’m planning to arrange these appointments around work. It’s not for a life threatening illness or anything. Whatever the outcome I plan to make sure it has no impact on work.

Do I have to disclose? Could I lose my new job?

Most places do actual full medicals these days @Bibblypip, just answer as honestly as you need to. It’s just for OH.

It's asking for current medical conditions. If you're under investigation, you don't know what the medical condition is so you can't declare it. If that's the only thing you're worried about then there's no issue.

I had a full medical for my current job, I take tons of medication, have a few conditions but as I'm desk based admin work it didn't stop me getting the job. I'm also subject to spot checks for drugs and alcohol so it's vital I disclose all medication in case it affects that test.

It's fairly standard these days to see if they need to make any adjustments.
Just answer the questions honestly but don't volunteer anything extra it doesn't ask for.
Im sure it will be fine

It's normal. It's just to make sure that if people need reasonable adjustments or other support that they are in place.

Don't lie. If they find out later they could sack you.

Treat it as a sign they are a responsible employer who takes their obligations towards employees seriously. That's a positive if you're diagnosed with a long term condition, e.g. if you need flexibility to work hours around appointments.

Thanks @Brainded @GrandShow @atticstage and @mynewusername2023 for your responses.

My worry is that I had to get signed off for work-related stress late last year (poorly managed workload and a very toxic manager that I submitted a grievance against). This was the first time in a 20 year career that I’ve ever had to do this and it was something I was hoping was behind me. I’m just worried about how that looks to OH and whether it will cause me problems? It asks whether a condition was affected by work.

I sought and received therapy and GP advice and I’m not on any meds.

This job was a very positive step forward for me so I’m a bit taken aback about getting the questionnaire at this late stage.

I read online that they can only dismiss you for not disclosing if they state at the time of the questionnaire that non disclosure could result in dismissal (??).
