Turning down a job

Has anyone turned down a job because of working conditions? I've just turned down a job that involved a commute 2-3 days a week to London. But now I'm feeling very torn in the end I was balancing flexibility that my current role offers in terms of primarily working from home and how that seemlessly fitted around my childcare arrangements as I co parent my daughter who is 5. The new job was no doubt a good career move but was the same pay and I opted to keep my more comfortable existing role purely because it was home based but it's a far less satisfying job...

I have done the same. If I'm going to commute into London it has to be a lot more money to make it worth the hassle. It sounds like you've done the right thing for your current situation.

When you consider the extra working hours and hours spent commuting, it is not worth it for no extra pay. I don’t blame you!

I think you made the right decision.

That type of commute is exhausting.

I still work for a London company after moving to the seaside and my commute is 2.30 hour each way.

I struggle to even do one day a week in these conditions so I am job-hunting for that reason. The company is not paying my travel costs, so it makes little sense financially long term and I don't want to keep getting exhausted by the long commute.

For me being able to work remotely or have a short commute is now a big priority when looking at a job.

My employer when they recruited me told me at the interview that I would only need to be in the office once a month and they knew full well that I was not based in London. Then six months later they said he would now be once a week..so I would be concerned that even if they tell you that you need to be in the office two days a week they might change that later on.

I work in recruitment and it's very common for people to decline a role based on this. Don't worry
