Occupational health / Reasonable Adjustments

Hi could anyone tell me what the procedure is with this. I am suffering from a flare up of OCD. I asked for RAs from my employer of 8 years to include working from home whilst I recover which they refused on grounds that I need to be in the office (even though I usually work from home a couple of days a week as do most employees). The initial request was on basis of a GP med3 note. My psychiatrist has told me he could write a more detailed letter but he said he would usually correspond with occupational health but yet my employer has told me that occupational health aren’t usually needed. And HR manager was very vague when I mentioned it at our first meeting in connection with the med3 note. My employer is a large company though so this is somewhat odd to me. I’ve never had to take any extended sickness in the whole time I have worked there until this year as they have made it unbearable for me since I returned from mat leave.

can someone tell me if I should therefore get my consultant to write to my employer direct and if there is anything in particular he needs to say? My understanding is that the conditions I am suffering from give me the right to request RAs… but the fact they refused it is confusing me. Do they just need something with more weight than a GP note?

cheers

I suspect they are avoiding the issue.

Do you have access to relevant policies like sick absence/managing attendance and reasonable adjustments? If you can, follow, refer or reference the policies.

If you are in a TU, ask them for support.

Write to your manager and copy HR, title it Disability - Workplace Adjustments
Set out your request referencing reasonable adjustments as set out in the Equality Act 2010, the duty of care under Health and Safety at Work Act, the Med3 request, and ask for a referral to OH.

Sadly you may need to follow this up with a grievance.
