PGCE: what subject would be more likely to lead to employment?

I am looking at retraining opportunities in middle age and exploring whether doing a PGCE would be feasible.

I could realistic do either a PGCE to teach art and design or to teach French:

  1. I have a fine art degree, sell my paintings and also some experience of teaching art workshops for disabled people and mental health issues and I also have several years of experience as a graphic and webs designer.
  1. I speak fluent French as I have dual nationality.

Could any secondary teachers and adult education tutors advise on what would be more likely to be useful?

My career has been in the charity sector in communications and marketing and I just can't see myself doing this until retirement.

french for sure, in fact I think you can get a bursary to train

Thank you both.

That's what I thought from my initial research!

I saw that French had a much larger bursary.

Although my heart is with art I also need to look at the financial realities and I can continue my art activities anyway on the side.

I have booked a phone chat with one of these Teacher Training Advisers for next week to discuss options and practicalities further.

I am keen to hear as well what the new government might do to promote teacher training and recruitment.

French. It's just been pulled from my kids school as they can't recruit.

I'm an ex secondary art teacher. Anecdotally I would say that MFL teachers experience worse classroom behaviour than art teachers. MFLs can be difficult for the less academic students, but many schools make it compulsory to take a MFL, which can lead to disaffected students.
Teaching A level art is lovely!

Thank you @Thingsthatgo , that's really helpful :). Something I had not considered and it is good to have that insider view.
