Where to apply for part-time shop work, lots of options but would like some advice!

I need to start working part time to help out with finances, so I've compiled a list of the local places I could feasibly work. Having previously applied for numerous administration roles (with no real experience) and only rejections, I think it'll have to be some sort of shop work.

Locally there are lots of options, but does anyone have any words of wisdom on which might be more family-friendly/better working conditions? Even better if anyone has experience of working at any of them?

There's...

B&Q
focus
premier inn
pizza hut
mcdonalds
mfi
comet
halfords
asda
morrisons
aldi
tesco express
boots
mothercare (small)
argos
adams
costa
wh smith
home bargains
superdrug
some other small clothes/sports shops

If I had to work in a shop I think I would also choose 1 that would benefit the finances eg staff discount card (food shopping).

have you an m&s? i work for them, they're a good employer. and they pay better than a lot of retailers. if you have a very big store near you then options for shift patterns are better.

I agree mumlove about the discount card, would be very handy indeed to have a discount for Asda as that's where we shop most often. Not sure about the work atmosphere though.

Totally agree hanaflower about restaurants making you smell, they would be my last choice options I think. Esp. Mcdonald's

I like the idea of Premier Inn, I saw a job advertised for 20-30 hours over 3 nights (fri, sat, sun) but the hours can be between 9pm and 8am, so not really how I would want to spend my weekends! Although I imagine the majority of the shift would be quiet and probably better paid than daytime work.. So maybe worth me thinking about. Plus it's just down the road (as is B&Q, mfi, comet, halfords, focus). The others are still walkable just slightly further.

Ruddynorah unfortunately there's no M&S near enough to me, otherwise I think it would be top of my list as I've heard good things about working for them. The nearest reasonably sized one is a good 15min walk then a 15min train ride on top, so not the best option.

Does anyone work or know someone who works for Premier Inn? Or have any feedback on any of the others? Thanks
