I need some outside insight to my situation because I think I'm probably being an over thinker...🤔

Currently in a job I hate, boring, minimum wage, and no job satisfaction. BUT it's convenient. 2 days a week 9-2 although the boss is always messaging me to ask me to do extra days.

Applied for a job I am qualified to do (a job I did for 15 years prior to kids and always wanted to go back to one day)
They offered me the job. Great, it's a job I love, was good at, qualified to do with great job satisfaction. And it's £2 an hour more than I'm on now.
Here comes the BUT... 🙊

I wanted to do 2 days a week, after the interview we agreed 3 days 9-3.
Now manager has back tracked and said they ideally need someone mon - Friday. I said I can't do that so we've compromised on Tuesday-Fridays 9-2. So that's 4 days.
2 days more than I wanted but it's the dream
Job! Manager agreed I could do 3 days in school holidays (see below)

Manager also said I would be required to cover the odd full weeks holiday of other member of staff even if it did fall in school holidays.

My main worry is my DS, I always said I never wanted to miss out on any time with him when growing up, I don't financially have to work. But I WANT to, it's independence and give me something other than just being 'mum'.

And I over thinking?
Will I regret working 3 days during the school hols when I currently work 2 at my crappy current job?

Or should I take the plunge?

Any advice really appreciated. Thanks ☺️

I'd say go for it but get what has been agreed in writing first

I've seen too many threads of people being promised things and then when they start the job none of it happens

One thing that stood out is you being asked to do more time in the school holidays, how will you handle that as it's when you'd ideally be not working but you'll be working more!

Yea I have a paper trail of what has been agreed.
There has been a level of compromise on both sides.
The working extra would only mean me covering one other employee when they take their holiday, so from my calculations would be what 4/5 weeks a year?! I can handle that for the right job.

The new job sounds like it will suit you well. You run the risk in your current job of becoming more and more bored and unfulfilled.

BUT how confident are you that you'll be allowed to do 3 days in the school holidays?
There's been a lot of threads on here recently about the goalposts being moved once people have started in new jobs, mainly to do with working hours or days in office/wfh.

I'd want to know how many others you'd have to cover for and when they normally take holidays. If it's 2 and they both have school age kids and take holidays in July/Aug you could end up working 3 or 4 weeks full time in the school holidays. I worked 3 days a week for years to be around for my children and I always made clear I wouldn't work extra days to cover other people's holidays as I was part-time for a reason. That would have been a dealbreaker for me.

If you do not financially need to work then take the offer but resign if it does not work for you. Or if they break their word stop turning up.
