High salary with no travel - do these jobs exist?

I’m talking £150k plus. I’m just back from another business trip and I’m so done with it. It’s just not compatible with family life or my personality. I’ve been there and done it and it holds no thrill anymore. But I don’t want to take a pay cut or step down.

If you earn this or more, and have zero travel, what do you do?

IFA to HNW individuals, so wealth management. 19 professional exams and 20 years experience. Work part time school hours. Very family friendly, very interesting.

Bemusedandconfusedagain · 27/06/2024 20:46

City lawyer. Earn a lot more than that and rarely travel abroad. Maybe once a year for a conference but could opt out of that if needed.

mynameiscalypso · 27/06/2024 20:46

My DH works in finance (deputy CFO). Earns well into 6 figures. Hasn't travelled at all in his current job. He's got a new job where he may have to go to Scotland for a couple of days every few months but that will be it.

mitogoshi · 27/06/2024 20:47

I'd say it rare. Even if there's no travel you are expected to be available outside of 9-5. If you want a job with set hours no travel there's plenty but less pay

ChangePlease · 27/06/2024 20:50

I don’t mind working outside’normal’ hours when needed, just not international/ overnight travel

It's less about the job and more about the company. Try to find a C level position for an industry UK based. They do exist.

GrimeldaNorth · 27/06/2024 20:51

What are your skills OP, what do you currently do?

ChangePlease · 27/06/2024 22:07

@Livinghappy yes the company I work for now is US / global…

Not me but I work in recruitment HR. Some of our recruitment consultants earn that and then some.

starsinyourpies · 27/06/2024 22:13

Don't do a global role (bitter experience!) or in my current situation work somewhere where all the travel budget has been cut!

CRJ77 · 27/06/2024 22:13

I work in a senior arts/culture role - won’t say more as it would be outing but I am the MD of a mid-size company, 60 employees. Earn 200k, have to go to the US maybe once every two years and could probably make it less than that if I wanted to. I sympathise, as I enjoy business travel less and less the older I get.

pjparty · 27/06/2024 22:15

US investment bank. I've travelled once in 8 years.

CheeseWisely · 27/06/2024 22:20

Our Managing Director is on more than that and travel for him is a night or two a couple of times a year for key meetings / dinner with business partners abroad. They're not strictly necessary though and the meetings could be done on Zoom if he didn't want to go.

ChangePlease · 28/06/2024 06:20

Ok so maybe not global role / company is the way forward- thanks for all the replies

OP posts:

@Bemusedandconfusedagain @pjparty are your roles hybrid or WFH or full time in office? And do you live in London? If you don’t mind me asking

OP posts:
Bemusedandconfusedagain · 28/06/2024 13:08

I work 90% over 5 days and am in 2/3 days a week, rest at home. I commute in.

ChangePlease · 28/06/2024 20:17

Sounds great @Bemusedandconfusedagain!

Director, 350k. Environmental stuff. I actually like the travel. It's all business class but if you don't fancy it, you can go economy and claim the difference.

Environmental and business class, irony is not dead
