Being TUPED

At the end of this year my current employment is being TUPED over to a new company. This company is well known for buying businesses and then getting rid of their staff after a while. Of course we don't know whether that's going to happen or not but there's a lot of worried people. I really enjoy my current role, the work hours and days are perfect and we've been told they should be protected for 2 years. However after then it's anyone's guess. There's a job opportunity came up for part of the business that isn't being TUPED which I've applied for however the job hours aren't as attractive, and there's a requirement to be in the office 2 x a week ( I currently only need to come in once a month)
I like the idea of being able to "control" my future and feel little more secure (if I was successful of course!) but there's a niggle at the back of my mind that I'd really miss the job I'm currently in. What would you do in my situation?

I don't have any personal experience, but my son works in the entertainment industry where buyouts and mergers are pretty commonplace. His particular job is in demand and he's very, very good at it and also has good 'contacts' so the buyer is usually anxious to retain him.

Each time he's gotten an ironclad contract from the purchasing entity guaranteeing a certain number of years of 'retention' with a clause guaranteeing him a hefty sum if the new entity tries to make him redundant. In exchange he agrees to a 'no compete' clause for those same years should he quit. There is also a 'mutual separation' clause for if they both want to go their separate ways, it dictates the hows and wherefores for doing so.

Is that a possibility? Maybe not as detailed, but a contract for a certain period (beyond just a promise of '2 years')? If it is, be sure you retain a solicitor.

If you love your job go with the Tupe. Embrace the change and work positively with the new company. I personally would not change my job because of Tupe.

I work for a huge company and this is involving 1000s of colleagues (don't want to go into details of the company) but I doubt anyone will be involving their own solicitors. We're basically a number! It's actually the 2nd time I've been TUPED for the same company!
There's lots of controversy around the new company buying us. Its just making me feel very, very unsettled. Plus the role I do is because we don't currently have the technology to do it so a human has to. With this new company I'm concerned they look at my role and say we can do all that at the push of a button and while we've been assured for the first 2 years there's no reducancies it's definitely the kind of role they could be easily get rid of.
