Help with HP Printer error message

Hello I bought a replacement black ink cartridge which was showing up on the display as 'incompatible/empty cartridge'. I followed all instructions and now it has changed to the cyan coloured one - which hasn't been changed as I never use it. Switched on and off/cleaned etc etc. I feel like I'm in the 7th circle of hell and I have a tonne of stuff to print for the end of term. I've been onto HP - useless. Is there a hard reset I can do? Sorry if this is in the wrong section. No idea where else to post. going out of my mind!!!! MTIA

What is the printer model? Did you buy genuine HP cartridges, or 'compatible' ones?

Soberinthecity · 20/06/2024 17:51

They were compatible. Used them (not this brand) since I’ve had the printer and had no problems before. The new cartridge isn’t showing as the incompatible one, as I said it’s now one of the others. HP 3070A

My experience of HP printers is that they're actually designed to do this kind of thing and force you into buying as many of their ink cartridges as possible. Mine makes a point of using coloured ink unnecessarily no matter what I do with the settings, so although 99% of what I print is documents, I'm always 'low' on bloody cyan.

It’s now changed to the pink cartridge. Again - I haven’t changed that cartridge. HP are notoriously sh1te but I can’t afford to buy a new one. There must be a way to do a factory reset….HP “help” is non existent

I found that HPs own brand cartridges were more expensive than buying a new printer! When I bought a new printer, I joined HP Instant Ink, paying £1.99 a month ( now £2.99 but slightly better terms) and the cost of new ink is included. When I had a lot of printing to do to organise my mother’s Attendance Allowance and my own Power of Attorney forms, I just pain an increased amount for one month to move to a higher tier.

I appreciate this will not resolve your current problems but I also had similar issues previously when buying compatible cartridges. It seemed to move the fault from the cartridge I had bought to an older one in the printer. I think HP and other manufacturers build in errors to stop us using cheaper cartridges!

I sometimes that by googling the problem I find a helpful YouTube video to show me how to fix a technical issue, although I guess you have already tried that. HP support were brilliant when I bought my new printer and spent over an hour remotely controlling my computer to get it to recognise the new printer but unfortunately they won’t help if you have bought products from a third party.

My HP printer drives me to the brink on a regular basis.

Sorry... not helpful.... but I feel your pain.

Yes help would be great. I did buy more HP ink in July but it’s already showing as low after about 60 pages and what was there bled on the page.

You could try deleting the printer from your computer and re-installing it.

(Be warned that this may not achieve anything other than increase your level of frustration)

I've had similar issues with an Epson printer and eventually gave it away. I did buy another Epson but with the 'ink tank' rather than cartridges, which so far has been very good.
(I know that this of little help to you at the moment.) 😟

Thank you for your message. I cleaned and checked the printer cartidges etc multiple times., It\s probably past its sell by date but I won't be buying an HP again. I'm looking at Brother - my printing needs are miniscule, but I do need one to print reliably for my college work.
