Is it easy to career change ti a PA/executive assistant

I have been working for twenty years in project management in the entertainment industry! I've found a couple of PA/ executive assistant jobs closer to home that sound really interesting and would fit around my childcare arrangements much more easily. I've never been a PA but have lots of experience with admin tasks, scheduling, invoicing and as mentioned project managing. Just wondered if any people have successfully made the switch?

Being a PA also involves scheduling and booking flights/ hotels etc. Not to mention buying birthday presents for family members .Why not apply for the jobs and see what happens? You will be able to judge how you feel about the work from the interview. One thing I would say, is that you will be at your employer’s beck and call. But it sounds as if you have lots of transferable skills.

Why not apply for an operational manager role as it uses similar skills to a project manager & PA.

It sounds like you have some great transferable skills. Be aware that there is out of hours work involved in most PA / EA roles, especially the higher level ones. You can be called on any time of day to fix travel plans, send urgent comms etc. I often wake up to brain dumps of all the things that need to happen that day.
There is more to scheduling then using outlook, being able to prioritise, make decisions on behalf of your exec and protecting their time.
Senior EAs are more like business partners these days.

I've switched back and forth between PA/EA, project management, and ops manager work. There are a lot of similarities.

How tolerable you would find being a PA depends on who you are working for, as the scope really varies on how much personal work they expect, and how open they are to you being involved in the business and not just doing pure admin.

I'm currently an EA and don't do any personal work e.g gift buying, but this was something that was agreed before I took the role. I am always available out of hours though because my exec travels a lot.
