Nhs break in service?

ThisOchreLemur · 11/06/2024 15:00

I was a paediatric nurse in the nhs from 2014 to 2021 then I had to leave my job due to relocation, maternity and personal problems.
I would like to go work again in the nhs, how will be my salary and holidays calculated? In 2021 I was in the last point payscale of band 5. What happens after a long break in service?

Thank you.

Holidays should take into account all your previous service; "Any previous service with a recognised NHS organisation will be used to calculate your entitlement to annual leave; any break in service would not be taken into account."...

Your break in service has been long enough that it would affect entitlement to maternity / sickness etc (see link)

Your salary range would depend on the band of the post you secured and you would be able to negotiate the starting point on the scale once you are offered the job. Will depend on the employer but ours would usually agree to match your most recent payment unless the gap was very large or you had only just gone up to it before your gap. Get whatever they offer that you accept in writing and check that they do pay what's discussed/ adhere to any review dates
