Hi,

I have an interview for a staff nurse job in Endoscopy. I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice/help on what questions they may ask. It's in Scotland. Please🙏

Thank you

For band 5 the questions are quite easy. You can find a lot online already. But from memory:

What would you do if X happened - X being patient had a fall, was unwell ect.

A question on escalation, what you would do if you couldn’t resolve a complaint or you felt like the medical team weren’t listening to you ect.

A question about a process such as asking how you would ensure safe transfer or discharge of a patient

How has feedback you received improved your practice

Normally a question about the trust, for example trust values and how you can demonstrate them

Normally a question about your future plans too.

Have examples prepared as that will get your answers to score higher and best of luck!0

you need to look at the trust values….I live in England so will work for a different trust to the one you are applying to …just Google then

Know your NEWS scores inside out and know what you'd do if they give you any scenario based questions. Revise deteriorating patients and escalation. Again, Know the values of your trust. Be yourself! I'm sure you will do great! You can look up interview practice online. Pick a couple of your strengths and weaknesses to discuss. Remember to say how you're working on turning the weaknesses into positives etc

Look at the trust values. Learn about clinical governance, duty of candor, patient advocacy. Nothing too in depth just basics.

They will likely ask you about your previous experience, speak about your placements if newly qualified, why you want to work in endoscopy (for me I’d say direct patient contact, opportunity to learn many skills, fast pace, interesting range of cases)

They may ask strengths and weaknesses, what makes you the person for the role.

There will likely be a question about prioritising workload. Eg. What order would you place these requests. 1) a dr comes and asks you to help get some blood results up. 2) a relative on the phone wants to enquire about transport for her mother due in next week 3) a patient feels dizzy after having their enema. Patient first and foremost! Mention delegation of other tasks to available staff (more a band 6/7 reply but still shows how you would manage your workload)

good luck and report back!

Think of a few clinical scenarios which you can use to answer "tell me about a time when...." type questions

Talk about wanting to keep up professional development, how can they help? AnyTuras learning courses relevant to post ask about.learning opportunities. Keeping up to date practice and evidence based practice. How you would like to work within local and national guidelines and policies such as NICE guidelines, Research a bit about post so you know what it involves, job description helps.
