I want to apply for a lateral loan but my manager can't let me go because we are too under resourced, the receiving department has said (and my manager agreed) I can go if I basically say I don't intend to return, which enables my home department to recruit for my replacement.
The loan is for 2 years, potential to extend to 3, and is just generally known for living off loans so it could just keep getting extended, it's a pretty standard role every department needs so it's unusual it's a loan and has a good argument for existence!
I am a natural worrier so this makes me feel uncomfortable. I am a 5+ year civil servant, I've been advised if the role ends I will be sent back to my home department who would be obligated to redeploy me, or they'd make me redundant but have heard this is quite rare as it is expensive (I'm a G6). Tbh I have never stayed in a role longer than 3 years so I'm sure I would end up moving myself, but just wanted to know if anyone was familiar with this and experienced it? Is the advice I've been given accurate in your experience? Would this be a silly thing to do?
