Does this exist? I'm a teacher and looking to work part time from home alongside my teaching job 2 or 3 days a week. I have tons of skills but have only ever taught. Any suggestions? We can't survive on my salary

I'm a bit confused - are you looking to work alongside a teaching job, or are you looking to work at home, during school hours ?

I mean, the most obvious job would be tutoring, but, apart from HE children, obviously your 'market' would be at school during school hours.

If you are working PT as a teacher, and not surviving financially, then is there a reason you wouldn't either go FT, or take on another day ?

Is there a reason it needs to be within school hours ?

Do you mean outside school hours? Otherwise I would have thought increasing your hours was the best option?

What subject do you teach? Tutoring seems the best fit. Many tutors offer online tutoring these days

I used to work for one of the big online teaching resource publishers (the one with the star 🌟) as a content writer when I left teaching to do a masters. Not amazing money but very flexible and a good balance of not that taxing but interesting.

Civil service might be a good option

Zanatdy · 28/05/2024 06:13

I would have said civil service too. When you are offered a role you’ll be asked your hours and you can then ask for part time / term time etc. But most jobs are 60% office now, and when new 100% is encouraged so I don’t think you can apply for a job that states 60% office on the advert and then say you can’t attend. Those already in can request home working contracts but you need a good reason (health etc).

Online tutoring is the answer. That's what I do, alongside my 3 day a week teaching job in a school.

Is your teaching job from home? Why does this job need to be from home? Just asking as a lot are "hybrid" these days

I would hazard a guess at the OP perhaps not having childcare, so needing to be at home?

Marking exam papers? I know it's not an annual thing, but coupled with some other of the suggestions, it could bring in a decent amount depending on how many you can mark at busy times.

How is it not an annual thing? That's exactly what I thought it was, once a year?

Trolltrotters · 28/05/2024 12:41

I guess I meant you probably can't live off it all year. Not enough for an annual income
