Anyone left nursery work?

Hi, I’ve been working in childcare now for almost 13 years. Lack of management, short staffed, overworked, being stressed and it effecting my home life and poor pay has made me want to leave for a while. It’s getting worse, not better unfortunately and I can’t see it changing anytime soon. I have been offered a new job doing office work which I’m anxious about as it’s out of my comfort zone, but the relief knowing I can hopefully hand my notice in next week is immense aswell as more flexible hours to suit my children!
has anyone else made the jump? Any regrets or do you think you’ll never return to childcare again?

Hiya, I left years ago after going into nursery work straight from school after doing my level 3, and honestly, I never look back. It was the best decision ever.

I went to work in London which I never ever imagined and I was so nervous, but I absolutely loved it. It feels like such freedom.

I'm talking almost 10 years ago that I left and it was awful then!

It’s been slowly declining over the years but since covid it’s become almost unbearable. I’m looking forward to my new chapter and when I have doubts I Just remind myself of how unhappy I’ve been, and how less stressed I’ll be!

I’ve just left education after 30 years of working in schools. Not sure what I’m going to do now (and in the fortunate position that I don’t have to decide right away) but I know I’ll never work in a school or nursery again. I feel sad about leaving colleagues but such a relief to know I don’t have to go back next week. The Sunday evening dread is a thing of the past.

Do it! I can guarantee that you won’t regret leaving behind the minimum
wage, poo & pee, not having time to go to the loo, constant Ofsted vigilance, worry about individual children, mountains of paperwork etc.
