Where to find immediate work?

It's a long shot, but I'm asking everyone I can think of, and I'm desperate and broke.

Where can I find some work to do this weekend or in the next few days? I'm not expecting complete strangers here to recruit me obviously.
But any suggestions of websites that list these sort of urgent jobs? Where maybe they need someone to do some work over a weekend and pay you at the end?
I've been applying for jobs for months with no success and I'm about to run out of money.
I'm pretty good at turning my hand to anything. Office work, data entry, cleaning, dog walking, anything!

Any summer events going on near you?

WeightoftheWorld · 24/05/2024 17:08

We have a local Facebook group for our area and often small businesses like pubs/cafes etc often post on when they need sudden immediate shift cover or things like flyers being handed out etc. Worth seeing if there is any for your area?

NightPuffins · 24/05/2024 18:10

No events that I've found, and local fb groups don't seem to have any work listings.

Forgot to say I'm in London if that's useful to know.

Do you have a driving licence OP?

You can sign up with Amazon Flex - you help Amazon to deliver parcels in your own car. They pay £72 for a four hour shift/ 3 hour shift is £54. Effectively its £18 per hour.

Amazon Flex was good, you can pick and choose what shifts you get.

You can also do Deliveroo/ Uber Eats/ Just Eat - however I don't think they would pay as good as Amazon Flex

Sign up with a care agency. I don't know anyone who has been turned down by them. You might be able to ask for an advance on wages (e.g. be paid for the weekend shifts as soon as you've done them.)

Also, in London there are still loads of cafes and restaurants looking for workers. One advantage is that you get fed. You might not waiting work without experience, but you can bus or wash pots.

I had temp work same day with an agency, but not on a weekend.

Local Indian/Bangladeshi restaurants have people in the kitchen CIH.

Have you looked on Indeed? Type in Immediate start, your local area and what areas of work you would consider or have skills in.

I’ve seen teens advertise themselves on FB because it’s half term next week. They’ve been offered work like some gardening, being an extra pair of hands to build flatpack, walk dogs etc

NightPuffins · 24/05/2024 19:14

I don't have a driving license for thanks for the other tips, I'm looking up now.

I would expect hope that anyone providing care for vulnerable people in their homes would be DBS checked which takes time

fedupwithbeingcold · 24/05/2024 23:41

Have you checked temping agencies like Pertemps?

daisychain01 · 26/05/2024 10:47

Things to bear in mind for immediate work -

for Care work you will need a proven extant DBS (and some companies want to do their own check)

you'll need to check work locations to ensure you can get to the place of work without spending a lot of your wages on travel.

if you don't drive, you'll be reliant on other forms of transport (including cycling). Some jobs need a full driving licence / own transport.

ETA @ChanWork just seen your suggestion about DBS, my thought too,

Kalevala · 26/05/2024 10:56

Some care agencies can be desperate for workers. One I was with was dropping off a young Eastern European male carer at visits and collecting him.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 26/05/2024 10:58

I don’t know if it will get you work this weekend, especially as it’s a bank holiday, but join an agency as they will be able to match your skills to the work available.

Look on Nextdoor.com for garden work and cleaning.
