Mam’s world

Hello
I work for a small company looking after the accounts. I am the only female. There were 2 other females but both have left recently. I enjoy the work I do.
It is very male orientated. Boss does not see accounts as bringing a lot of value to the company as I am not in sales or working on site.
The men get very well looked after and don’t have to ask for pay rises. I have always had to ask for one. They also get numerous other benefits and perks.
I actually like the work I do and the pay is good.
i am just looking for ways to stop overthinking what the men get. I only know of these benefits and perks as I process them.
Any tips for dealing with this? All sounds silly now I have written it out so probably just ranting!!

Is 'mam's world' a wishful thinking typo? 😀

Salary - I think you should compare your salary to similar roles in other companies. If you are comparing an accounts salary to a sales salary, this isn't a like-for-like. If your salary is fair for your role from an external benchmarking perspective, that's fine; if not, you have data to support a negotiation for a pay rise - or you could go elsewhere.

Perks and benefits - hard to say without some idea of what these are. Are they role-specific (e.g. travelling sales role gets a company car) or not? If they are not role-specific and being given only to men, you may have a good case to claim discrimination.

Can you find a way to explicitly prove your worth.

You do the accounts which means you keep track of the company finances and ensure that money is flowing correctly and people are being paid.

Do you identify errors which result in cost savings, do you optimise payment dates to reduce interest rates, do you ensure that payroll is timely to maintain staff satisfaction etc

Can you quantify how much you save then on an annual basis.

Show them that while you don't directly bring in revenue you do optimise it and your direct input means that they are more financially sound.

Probably because you have it running like clockwork with no problems, invoices paid on time and debtors chased; even more so if that's being done by a woman. Value is never given to a job when it's being done with no problems for management. What do your annual appraisals say, when was your last salary increase and what's your salary like compared to other similar jobs?

Yes typo error!! Man's world.
Thanks for the replies.
I probably didn't explain properly in my OP
I have always had to go in and asked for salary changes for myself. I am more annoyed that my boss brings me in and tells me that certain people have not asked for increases but that he is going to give them one.

I do my job very well and you are right - I have all suppliers paid on time, we have a good credit rating and there are hardly ever issues with payroll, debtors etc. There has never been an issue with any of my work.

The perks - are the males all have cars, fuel cards etc.- even office based ones. There was a site based position that was offered to a female before she left. She assumed she would get a car but was told to use her own and claim expenses. She declined the position, a male was then offered the position and he was given a car.
They are brought out for meals, drinks, golfing days as a thank you for securing a job or when a project is finished. Concert tickets bought for them. Loads more examples but just going to annoy myself thinking of them all!
It's just really annoying but I just have to suck it up and not let it get to me.
Going to look around and see if my salary is on a par with what others would offer. If not, try negotiate an increase of move on to one closer to home.
Thanks again.

He's right though. This isn't a male vs female thing. Accounting functions are always seen this way because they are a cost centre to the business not revenue generating.

It's not personal - it's not a reflection of you or your boss - it's just the nature of the function you are working in. It would be the same in any business.

If you move to a bigger business you'll still be a cost centre, but there might be a better structure to salary reviews and other benefits.
