What jobs do you do as single parents?

Hi
I have just split from my partner and have a LO who is 7 months.
I will need to look at returning to work but not able to go back to my previous role as they can’t accept me as part time.

so what part time jobs does everyone do as a single parent as I have no idea where to start looking……. I have no ‘qualifications’ apart from GCSE and then the experience 10 years of workkng in admin roles that have then progressed to management roles.

thanks …

I'm a single parent and I'm self-employed. It gives me the flexibility I need, enough money to live on but the obvious downsides of no sick pay, holiday pay or employer contribution to pension.

My work is so niche that it's probably not worth mentioning but with the experience you mention you sound like someone with the right skills to be a 'virtual assistant' like an online PA. This work can pay very well.

@INeedNewShoes What is it you do? Only because I’m nosey!!

I have thought about virtual assistant roles but I heard that the market is really overcrowded. I can give it a go and see what becomes.

I'm a self employed bookkeeper.

Why do you need to be part time?

I am a single parent and work full time, employ a childminder and claim childcare back via universal credit. Don’t affect your future pension and earning potential by being part time unless you have to

I work part time as a Nurse

I was a teacher and single parent. Incredibly hard but it paid the bills

(No longer a lone parent)

An actuary, you can now complete an apprenticeship rather than going to university.
