How to ask for a pay rise rise

My daughter 23 has been working since graduating from uni last year. She is coming up to a year there now.
She works for a lovely lady who owns the business. Its a small business with only a few employees, and in the time that she has been there, the owner has stepped back massively. She now comes in late and leaves early in order to accommodate her children and my daughter has taken on more of the business side of things.
She loves her job but feels that she is being undervalued. In addition she has a 45 minute drive each day and £5 carpark fees
I don't know how to advise her as I've never been in that position. I am totally valued at work and am paid accordingly.
She is a very gentle girl and gets on incredibly well with her boss. She doesn't want to rock the boat, but says that if she is denied a pay rise, she feels she has no option but to find other employment.
How does she approach her boss please🙏

Does she have an annual review coming up? This would be a good time to raise it.

She should benchmark similar roles with similar responsibilities with regards to pay, and use this to back up her request.

And as part of that, maybe she'll see a different job she'd like to apply for 😄 - lots of people say that the easiest way to get a pay rise is to get a new job.

Good luck!
