you are taxed in the year you did the work, or the year you received the payment

Did a project for the university this financial year, but they have messed up my payment and won't get my pay cheque until next month. I'm not self employed so I'll get taxed PAYE.

Will the £count against my tax free personal allowance this year or next? If its next year it could cost me £500

Please help, not sure whether to go ballistic with them or not.

if you are an employee as you say ,it ought to be taxable in year you did work. from what you say that they have paid it late is their issue with incorrect filing etc rather than yours.

There are slightly different rules for directors but I'm assuming you are not a director.

Come late to this but pay is taxable when it is paid, not when it is due.

If you get it next month you will be taxed on it next month- sorry.
