WFH set up question

Sorry for the boring question.

I have just returned back after maternity leave and will be working from home two set days per week (two children will be in nursery these days)

I will be getting a desk/chair etc delivered this week from my work.

My question is to those of you who don't have an office or a spare bedroom, do you have your set up in your main living room or bedroom?

Not sure if I should keep it out the way and have it in the room even though we don't have huge amounts of space or have it in the livingroom where there is a bigger space, but not massive?

Thank you.

Doesn't really matter. Pick one. Then move it if it doesn't work for you.

I actually migrate around the house due to the seasons!

Oh good shout.

Our room gets really warm in the summer so might be nice sitting next to the patio doors. We haven't long moved here so it's just trial and error I guess.

Thank you.

I would go with living room. Although it’s depressing to be sat looking at your desk in the eve when you’re trying to relax, your bedroom should be kept for sleeping!

I use the dining table and declined an office chair as we don't have room. Could possibly fit something in our bedroom but I don't want to be reminded or work there!

Maybe also get a physical room divider/screen so you can draw this across your desk/working area when you are off duty? That would also help when you are in video calls - though I think you can also generate a virtual background. 🌹

Agree it helps to be able to section things off somehow or put it away. It's hard when you don't have a separate room to use.

I work at the kitchen table, it’s light, airy, nice view, and near the snacks! I don’t pack up every evening, we’ve grown accustomed to sitting around the 2/3 of the table that remains.

as I'm still renting and in a small place, my desk is in the living room but when I'm not in the mood I just work from the bed! Work laptop is shutting down firmly at 5.30 pm and I don't even take a second look at the desk until the next day 😉

I have two set ups. I have a "perm set up" which is a desktop PC with two large 28 inch screens in my office. Then I have my MacBook Air, and a 2nd portable screen which I plug in, which I sometimes use in my living room/garden, especially in the summer as it gets quite hot upstairs.

Sounds horrid.

I have my main set up in the orangery with two 57inch curve screens just above the Champagne fridge. The secondary location used on sunny days is the outdoor pool with a laptop joining me on the inflatable lilo.

Neither of which really help OP.

I’m very bad…. I sit on the sofa with the foot recliners up, laptop on tray. Every day unless I’m out on visits.

I have an office with a desk and proper chair, monitor etc etc. but this is far comfier!

so, I’d say wherever you feel most comfortable.

I use the bedroom as it means I don't have to move when the kids are home after school/in the holidays (the one around after school is 11 and if DH looks after them in the holidays if I'm working).
