When a job move ends up a mistake

Recently moved after a long time at my previous role to an advisory role in a different sector. I have been there for 8 months and I really feel like it isn’t the right role for me.

luckily I work in a fairly in demand area but I am struggling to move back into what I was doing before. I made this move due a previous bullying boss and had niggles in my gut which I didn’t listen to and now regret. But I was so desperate to get away from my previous situation.

have you had to move on after only a short time in a role and how did it work out? Feel like I’ve had a bad few years and need some inspiration!

Yes it has gone wrong for me but important things is to move on asap and not waste further time in a bad company

Ended up in a job much closer to home for a negligible pay cut. Team as bitchy young girls, no car parking, no desk space, snitching, micro monitoring(not micro managing as theyd barely gave any training. I didn't even know what a plinth was after 3 months)

Yes move in and you won't regret it. I left a job after 6 months and it has not been an issue with future roles. I think people move on faster between roles these days for a variety of reasons.

Move on (autocorrect fail!)

I was with a company 7yrs before they made the role redundant. My next role was extremely toxic. Dreadful management and I wanted to leave after a week. I stuck with it 8mths, simply to have a longer time on my CV.

I now have a great job. I WFH solely, have a lovely manager and team, very flexible and my pay is actually more than the toxic job. Esp if you job is in demand, you will be snapped up. Sometimes the grass really is greener.

Yes i've taken a job I wasn't happy in afterwards.

I've done it. Took a job which I knew really wouldn't be great and I was right.

Moved on after 6 months. If you are worried from a CV perspective it shouldn't matter unless you have lots of short stints in different places. Don't rush into another bad job though. Can you do some temping or interim work while you work out what's next?

Thanks all, yes it’s hard to work out what’s next. I have been in all my previous roles a few years so it doesn’t look like I’m failing probation and moving on.

Yes I've been in a similar situation and I left a job after 7 months as I realised I had made a mistake (the boss was a bully and the job they wanted me to do was nothing like the one they advertised or I was qualified to do). I listed that role as a Consultancy on my CV. You could say you were covering / interim so looking now for a perm role? Don't worry - just get out of there.
