Flexible working and childcare HELP

Hello,

So for over the past year and a half I have had an agreement with my job to work 4 day shifts(12 hour shifts) instead of 2 days 2 nights. This enable me to take my 2 nursery kids 50 percent of the time as my Ex takes them on the days I work and vice verca. I will always collect them after my last shift straight from work around 18:30-7pm. On the days I have the kids is when my ex partner works. They will then be returned at the same time to my ex on my last rest day. This give us both equal flexibility to have our children and to work and it works perfectly for us.

however… unfortunately my work are now reviewing this and trying to get me back to 2 days and 2 nights this is causing me a lot of grief as I’ve fought really hard to get to have my kids 50 percent of the time and I don’t want to loose any time spent with my kids or have to change things with my ex as it will cause further tension as her work have also agreed to this arrangement and it’s been working very well.

im unsure where to go from here as im so worried and anxious that im going to loose time with my children. We have a routine in place and the kids enjoy equal time with both parents and like the routine. I think it would really impact my wellbeing and mental health if this was lost.

There is a large amount of staff at my work over 100 so it’s not a small department. I feel my request is fair as I still work the exact same days however only as for 2 of the 4 shifts to be changed from 18.30-06:30 to 06:30-18:30 which I think is quite reasonable to cause minimum disruption.

can someone please advise?

Are you getting the same terms and conditions as everyone else? Same pay but no nights.

you need to as I’mor a formal flexible working policy and be prepared it may be turned down.

nights suck but in some line of work they are non negotiable

I don’t mind nights personally it just wouldn’t work with taking my children equally. Yes people can claim a night allowance for working nights.

If nights are part of the role, you might have quite a battle on your hands.

An ‘agreement’? Or an agreed formal flexible working request?

If everyone else is working a mix of days and nights then to be honest I’m not surprised they want to review it. I wonder if there was an expectation it was temporary?
