Overtime

Does anyone know if companies can make staff work overtime? My contract states that overtime must be worked to help support the needs of the business or something along those lines.
My workplace is constantly short staffed, I work part time 3 days (8-2) and reduced my hours when I returned to work after cancer treatment due to the long term side effects.
I am now constantly made to feel guilty when I leave work at 2pm as I am leaving them short staffed.

@user29100199 there are 3 types of overtime

  1. Guaranteed - an employer guarantees to offer x hours overtime and an employee is contractually obliged to work it.
  2. Non-guaranteed - an employer does not guarantee to offer overtime but if they do offer it an employee is contractually obliged to work it.
  3. Voluntary - an employer does not guarantee to offer overtime but if they do offer it an employee is entitled to refuse.
It really does depend on what your contract states. I would suggest talking to ACAS.

I would also suggest you get a referral to occupational health for an assessment.
They can assess your current state of health and recommend any reasonable adjustments based on long term health conditions/disabilities, such as not working longer than a 6 hour day
