Hello everyone,

I hope you are all having a lovely day :)

I used to work as a PA in the city, then I had my daughters and.... I have a 10 years gap in my CV :')

Been trying since last year to get a part time job I can do while I look after them as I don't have family around and husband often travels for work. Signed up to a cybersecurity bootcamp last year, which I completed but then didn't translate into anything material (impossible to get through any entry level interviews after that!)

Then decided to go for AAT level 2, which is going OK and have 1 more exam to pass. In the meantime I am working in the local secondary school (5 minutes walk from my house, can't complain) doing exam invigilating and some admin on the side. The work is OK but rather boring.

I saw a Level 2 Business Administration course that I can do on the side, it's only assignments I have to hand in every 2 weeks after reading the course materials/some research on the internet. My question is aimed to anyone involved in recruiting... is it worth it? I will end up with a NCFE Level 2 Diploma in Business Administration; my idea was to "refresh" my knownledge and maybe show employers that the super city PA it's still somewhere inside me... just want to be hired really !! But now I am thinking I am not sure if it's a recognised qualification? Anyone heard about it?

Thank you very much and sorry for the long message, it's just disheartening to apply and apply for jobs and never get a response back :'( I'm on zero hours at the school I work with and it is working OK so far but some months I get close to £0 and really need to help out with mortgage gone up the roof!

xxx

Yes, I would say it would be worth it. Recruiters have to decide who to put forward for interview. One of easiest way is to use qualifications as a selection criteria. So it doesn’t matter how experienced or keen you are, if you haven’t got that bit of paper, you won’t progress to interview. Good luck.

I guess you are right, will get it done then!! I did see this qualification last year and looked intereseting but there was no funding available, now it's for free so I guess it's a win win situation :)

Thank you very much for your response!

Could you possibly do a level 3?
I did the level 3 business admin a few years ago, it wasn’t too taxing and will look better on your cv if you can.

Level 2 is only equivalent to GCSEs. I'd advise doing a level 3 course instead (equivalent to A levels).

Level 2 says it takes 6-12 weeks to do. That's very short. I'd say it's not worth it tbh. Level 3 is minimum 18 months so at least looks a worthwhile qualification.

Agree, level2 is normally aimed at those who have to resit gcses or a 16+ apprenticeship. If you are already taking AAT you probably would be better taking something at a higher level.

Thank you all!

Reason I am not going for level 3 is... I couldn't find any available! I am self funding my AAT and at the moment I cannot afford to self fund another course, this one was for free so I thought may be a good top up added to the AAT I am already doing. Also level 3 seems to be mainly apprenticenships, full time and bad pay. I cannot go into full time work at the moment and the bad pay puts me off, I may as well go for mininum wage and gain experience that way.

I have an university degree but not in this country so don't have GCSEs per se, I am finding interesting to study in English so hopefully something good will come out of it!

Thank you all very much for your feedback:)
