Hello I'm an allied health professional considering a new role as a PIP assessor.

I've lots of experience in mental health care and some with neurological conditions.

Has anyone done this role and can tell me the general ups and downs? Also are there any courses or reading that could help me?

I'm 17 years qualified and want a change from NHS.

TIA

Would you consider occupational health instead? I have never worked as a PIP advisor but from what I have heard it is incredibly stressful and you have to make difficult decisions based on a load if paperwork per application that you won't have the time to read. Occ health is related and can be stressful too but more interesting in my opinion.

Hi there. I worked as a PIP assessor for PFAS. It was horrendous basically and out of the 5 of us who did the initial course together 8 months later, 1 had left voluntarily, 2 had been sacked and only 1 (RGN) stayed. They try and make everything very uniform with audit which is every case when you start then becomes random, basically I think the audit was easier for RGNs because it was more a RGN way of thinking. There was a lot of pressure to be very pedantic and ask the clients every little thing, which I didn't feel comfortable with it made the interviews very long. But basically the way I was treated was the worst job I have every had, they would threaten to sack me then 5 minutes later I had to phone a client for their interview who was quite distressed themself.

Have you looked at roles with universities supporting mental health of students? That is quite a nice job.

Thanks all - very helpful. I hadn't thought of that uni option. Good idea to look into that.
