Was it the right decision?

So i have been in my current role since January, it is an Administrator, but the job is more like office Junior, its doing things like oraganising lunches, ordering stationary, making sure the tea and coffee is filled up and the biscuit tin in the conference room.

I previsoly worked in the asbestos industry doing asbestos reports, dealing with surveyors, planning there workload, booking in surveys, while I worked in this industry I got the P402 qualification which is surveying and sampling strategies, it gave me better knowledge in the industry.

Anyway I had another asbestos company reach out, they offered me a job which is the same money I’m on now with the promise of a payrise in 3 months, he also offered me the opportunity to do the P401 qualification which is identification of asbestos in bulk samples (this would enable me to be a lab analyst if I so wished)

Anyway I am questioning my decision to leave where I am at, the company is great, the benefits and holidays and the people, I guess its going into the unknown as I don’t know what the new place is going to be like

Please reassure me it’s the right thing! My anxiety is through the roof!😃

Your current jobs sounds suitable for an office junior or someone on their way out to retirement tbh. (& would be perfect for me, not too taxing!) Aren’t you bored? Your new role sounds like it has great prospects.

It depends on whether you actually like the new job, will you be so bored in 12 months time you want to cry at your desk, or will the work get more varied/taxing?
changing jobs is always a gamble, but if you don’t try you will never know.
even if it doesn’t work out, nothing is forever, you can change again!

I think i will like it as its very similar to what i did before and I liked it then.

Yeah i guess you are right, I just don't like job hopping.

I wouldn’t leave for the promise of a future pay rise - why do you get it in 3 months rather that right away? Have you got the promise in writing? Is it contingent on anything? But if you’re bored and the new job will be a more interesting challenge, there’s nothing wrong with leaving a job after a few months.

Might be worth thinking about why you left your last job for the current one?

What's going on outside in your day to day life? I stepped back and took a much less demanding role to manage my stress levels, DD was struggling with what we now know was autism and although she is fine now she's starting GCSE years from September and I think holding back for myself in a easier role to have more mental bandwidth is the way forward but. Fully intend to press forward in future.

AlisonDonut · 01/05/2024 10:52

So because you don't like 'job hopping' as if that's a thing...you are going to deny yourself an interesting job and would rather just order sandwiches?

Really? Nobody is going to care about this other than you.
