Mat leave on fixed term contract

I'm currently working a maternity cover at a school, my position is due to end in July. However, another member of staff will start their mat leave in September 2024, so they'd like me to continue working at the school.
They won't give me a permanent position so it'll be another fixed term contract. for 1 year until July 2025

I'm hoping to start trying soon and i'm trying to figure out my best options.
If I were to get pregnant October/November 2024, I'd still be under contract with the school when I started my mat leave, but if I left it until January, i'd be finished my post by then and so I'm not sure whether it would be unwise for me to continue. Also might not happen straight away, so I don't want to keep waiting either.

The alternative is to find a new school, but then I'd have to wait X amount of time (3 months?) to qualify for statutory pay.

I actually want to leave teaching but not sure this would be the best time to do it.

Firstly, sadly you cannot guarantee you will become pregnant quickly. I hope you do but be realistic.

Providing you meet the criteria for SMP have worked the required number of weeks to qualify the school will have to pay your SMP even after the fixed term contract ends.

i got this advice from HMRC employers helpline whilst dealing with a situation at work.
