Offered job subject to vetting

Dd has been offered a job working with children but it's subject to vetting.

She has had mental health issues.

How likely is it that they would withdraw the job offer and say she doesn't meet the "fit person " criteria.

She is receiving treatment going to counselling etc but has had a recent overdose which thankfully she recovered from.

Doctor has declared this on a health questionnaire. Should Dd withdraw from job or submit the form and see what happens.

She is also worried about confidentiality.

Didn’t a post with a very similar scenario appear a few days ago?

Are you the poster whose dd took an overdose just three weeks ago? If so I'd gently suggest she withdraw from the job process this time and focus on her recovery. I hope she's feeling better soon.
If not I apologise and would ask how long since her mental health crisis has it been?

Your poor DD - I hope she is getting some help and support. Perhaps a busy and interesting job where she has to look "outwards" if you see what I mean, would really help her.

My DD has had severe MH problems, unfortunately including overdoses and a period as an in-patient. She has a very responsible job now with government security clearance. She was worried about her MH history when she sent off her vetting form, but it didn't affect her clearance.

Good luck to your DD, I hope she gets the job and it boosts her MH.

Thanks for the replies. Yes I posted in mental health previously. I thought I would repost in jobs to see if anyone has any experience from a occupational health perspective.

Won’t the vetting be a DBS check - to make sure she’s got no convictions?

I do DBS checks for people working in childcare and to my knowledge, health - mental or otherwise is not considered. They are more bothered about convictions and checking that a person is who they say they are.

I was vetted myself recently by the MOD and wasn't asked about my health at all as I recall. They were more interested in my political views, any debts, my neighborhood, friends, hobbies and what my husband did.

Mh/medical records are not usually part of the dbs check (this is a police check)

But references/previous sick leave may flag it.

Is she ready to work? Schools are quite stressful work places and not for the faint hearted!

If the doctor declared it on any forms that were submitted, then I’d wait to see what happens.

That being said if she’s recently overdosed I’m not sure an environment working with children is the right one - because parents (as we’ve all seen on mumsnet with people defending kids - remember the hamster saga where the boy killed his friends hamster and people defended him?!) can be right twats and if her MH is fragile then it might not be worth the risk.

The Dbs check is already back it's clear.

It's not in a school it's in a nursery as an assistant. Would not be in sole charge of a child or talking to parents. She is very good with kids.

She has changed the two things that were causing her stress and anxiety.

It's similar to Ofsted health screening.
