Worried to tell boss

Im really worried to tell my boss about my pregnancy. Im 10 weeks now. I started my job in middle of Feb (I transferred from one department to another - same company but totally different job). I worked at the other job for a year when I transferred to this job.

I'm worried my boss will be pissed off at my situation as I've only been in this job role for a couple of months.
I know legally I have until 15 weeks before due date (I think) to inform them.
There's another lady who's also pregnant, she's about 16 weeks now and we've all been talking about her pregnancy (including the boss), but I've kept quiet about mine.
Will my boss think badly of me for this?
What's the best way to tackle this?
How did you tell your boss you're pregnant & when?
Am I overthinking???

Op, I was you!
You'll likely have another month or two before you show, so if you're not off ill then you have time to get yourself steady.

Your boss has no choice but to be nice about it. Take a colleague with if you're worried - I told owner and line manager at the same time.

It's your news - own it. If boss is annoyed then so be it: you'll be off soon enough.
You have a new purpose in life coming 🙂 please keep work in perspective.

I'm an over thinker too. The expectation is always worse than the reality, you will be fine.
Good luck and congratulations OP!

Thank you for your reply!! It's nerve wracking! Were you fairly new to your job as well? How did your boss react?
I'm also wondering if I'll be entitled to maternity pay due to being with the company over a year (even tho the this job is new)🤷🏻‍♀️

I feel like I've done something wrong😂😂

@fortheloveoftoast as you have been with the same employer you should qualify for SMP and, if it’s offered, occupational maternity pay. Obviously this is subject to you meeting all the other criteria.

@Propertylover thank you for this information, I appreciate your reply. I will look into these options ready for when I speak to my boss

@fortheloveoftoast I'd been there around 11 months when I told them (I think I was about 14weeks at that point).
Before I went off another new starter had become pregnant, she went on ML before she was there a year! It's not uncommon by any stretch.

You will definitely get SMP. Anything beyond that is company specific.
Check your contract, employee handbook or look for specific maternity or family policies (perhaps on an intranet?)
Ask them to send you a copy when you do tell them, if you can't find or if it isn't present.

(My business didn't have as I was literally the first pregnant employee they'd had. It's a male dominant industry and small business)
